— Questions

Frequently asked questions

Who applies for a work permit, the employer or the employee?

In Switzerland the employer files the application with the cantonal migration authority, not the employee. We prepare the documents, submit the application and follow it up, so your company does not have to learn the process.

What is the difference between an L permit and a B permit?

An L permit is a short-term permit, issued for up to one year. A B permit is a residence permit for longer stays and can be renewed. Which one applies depends on the contract, the nationality of your employee and the canton. Our eligibility check gives you a first answer.

Can we hire someone from outside the EU/EFTA?

Often yes, but the rules are strict. Employees from outside the EU/EFTA are generally subject to quotas, and employers must show that the position could not be filled locally. The person usually has to be a manager, specialist or otherwise highly qualified, with customary pay. We check your case first.

What about EU/EFTA citizens?

EU/EFTA citizens are generally not subject to quotas. Depending on the length of stay, they need a registration or a notification procedure instead of a full permit application. We handle that registration too, so the start date does not slip.

How long does a work permit take?

In our experience it usually takes 8 to 12 weeks from submission, sometimes faster. The canton, the permit type and how complete the documents are on day one make the difference. We check every file before it goes in, which avoids the most common delays.

What does it cost?

Our service fee is fixed and shown on the pricing page: CHF 950 per permit on the one-time plan, with lower per-permit fees on the Premium and Gold plans. Authority fees are charged separately by the canton and vary by permit type.

Can the family come along?

Family reunification is possible in many cases, but the conditions depend on the permit type, housing and income, and the canton. We handle family reunification applications and tell you up front whether a case looks realistic.

What do you need to get started?

A few details about the candidate (nationality, role, salary, canton of work) and the planned start date. The two-minute eligibility check collects exactly that. After that we tell you which documents to prepare and what the next steps are.
